Emailing your followers should be in your marketing toolbox. However, many coaches and consultants aren’t taking advantage of email marketing in an effective and meaningful way. They either aren’t emailing at all, emailing too much, or sending impersonal emails only when they are launching a product or service. Don’t let that be you! After all, behind every email is a person.
When someone gives you their email address, it’s a privilege and an honor. So, don’t take it for granted. Incorporate these three tactics in your email marketing plan to build and nurture relationships:
Be Relatable
Think of one person, not the masses, when writing your email. Imagine having a conversation with your ideal avatar. Then, write your email message as if you were in the same room with them and talking with them. Your message will come across as more genuine and personal.
You can even personalize your messages in your email marketing platform (i.e. MailChimp, Constant Contact, or ConvertKit) with the use of merge tags. Merge tags will allow you to insert your email subscriber’s name within the body of your message.
Provide Value
Help by sharing resources and thoughts in some of your email messages without asking for anything in return. In other emails, do include a specific call to action for one of your paid service offerings. The individuals on your list want your help at some level. They want to either be informed, entertained, motivated or inspired. So, don’t make every single email message about buying your stuff.
Consist Emails Matter
Develop a publication schedule and incorporate your messaging that aligns with the message of your foundational content (blog, vlog, or podcast). When your email subscribers see your messages in their Inbox on a consistent basis, you remain top of mind. They may not need your services at the very moment you press the send button, but without your continued effort to provide value in the relationship, you are easily forgotten and they’ll turn to someone else for the help they need.
Conclusion
Remember, behind every email is a person. Use your email messages to genuinely build relationships by providing value. When you invest the time and intention needed to create systems to building relationships, you will no longer have to “hustle” for business; the business comes to you.
You don’t need to be overwhelmed with sending consistent messages to build relationships with your subscribers. You already have so much on your plate already, getting help implementing your email marketing plan is smart. The key is to bring someone onto your team who gets to know you, your mission, and your tribe. You should seek out someone who cares about building relationships as much as you do.
