How to Create Anchor Links in WordPress

This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to create anchor links in your WordPress website.

Anchor links, also known as jump links or page jumping, are hyperlinks that navigate you to a specific place on your webpage. It comes in handy and makes things easier for your reader to navigate to a specific section of the page they’re most interested in.

A table of contents listed on a blog post is a perfect example of using anchor links.

Steps to Create Anchor Links in WordPress

  1. Navigate to the Edit screen of your WordPress page or post you wish to add anchor links to.
  1. Create the text you wish to apply the link to.

  1. Navigate to the block you’d like to jump to.

  1. In the Block settings, on the right side of your screen, open Advanced. In the HTML anchor box, type a word or phrase for your anchor.

  1. Navigate to and highlight the text on your page that you’d like the anchor applied to (done in Step 2). Click the Link button from the block menu.

  1. Type the pound sign (#) and your anchor text (as entered in Step 4). Hit Enter.
