I knew as I grew my business that I couldn’t possibly do EVERYTHING! For example, bookkeeping is the LAST thing I want to do for myself. It’s important for me to have Quickbook entries current, bills paid on time, and a current P&L to review. Should I spend my time doing it? NO! My time is better spent on client projects.
The investment is well worth the time I gain because my focus and direction is much more clear. Building a team is important in any business, because you can’t do it alone.
Your team can consist of family, friends, and other folks you’ve come to know and trust. Their role may be helping you with minor to major tasks. The main thing to remember when delegating is FOCUS ON RESULTS. You have to let go of the details (i.e. specific steps) on how they got there, as long as the results are where you need them to be. Clear communication is also important.
When you really think of all your tasks, and begin delegating a little at a time, you will have better direction and focus on the things you really should be doing. You may think you can’t afford to delegate, but in reality, you can’t afford NOT to delegate.
