A simple, more fulfilling life has a different meaning and a different value for every person. For me, it means eliminating all but the essential, avoiding chaos for peace, and spending time doing what’s important. Here are some tips to help you get the most of your time:
- Make a list. What 4-5 things do you most want to do in your life, on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis? Start with these priorities, as you are scheduling so you have more time for these things.
- Evaluate your commitments. Look at everything going on in your life. Which really gives you value, which do you love doing and which are in line with the 4-5 most important things you listed above? Not everything can be dumped, but prioritizing is the beginning of streamlining the important things for you.
- Simplify work tasks. Our work day is made up of an endless list of tasks. Focus on the essential tasks, knocking out what is important, then move on to conquering the rest, one step at a time.
- Simplify home tasks. Sometimes our home task list is just as long as our work list. Focus on the most important, try to find ways to eliminate the other tasks, so you may enjoy your time at home more.
- Purge stuff. If you can devote a weekend to purging the stuff you don’t want, it feels wonderfully terrific to clean your home and have less stress!
- Limit your media consumption. This tip won’t be for everyone, however, I believe that the media in our lives — TV, radio, Internet, magazines, etc. — can come to dominate our lives. Try not to let it. You can simplify your life and your information consumption by limiting it.
Making small steps towards simplifying your life with these tips can make a big difference in your work and home life!
