Are you having a crazy busy week? You know, one of those weeks that you can’t see yourself coming or going?
Sometimes schedules get so full and to-do lists become longer and longer, that you can’t keep your head above water. You become overwhelmed and frazzled.
With technology the way it is these days, it seems like overwhelm is much more of an epidemic. Why? I think it’s because we feel we must always be accessible. We allow interruptions during our “me time” or family time.
I challenge you to set aside some time each week to unplug and go offline. Turn off your computer and put away all your electronic devices. Go somewhere no one can reach you. In today’s age of constant electronic communication, turning it all off can be a great stress relief. It allows you to focus and recharge mentally making you more productive in the long run.
Perhaps you panic at the very idea of unplugging. You think I’m crazy for even suggesting it.
Take baby steps.
For example, at dinner with your family, turn OFF your phone. It’s only for an hour or so. Focus on what’s going on around you and the conversations you’ll be engaged in. At first, sure, you’ll have anxiety because it drives you absolutely nuts that your phone is off, but practice! You’ll find that you will look forward to those moments. You’ll cherish that time. You’ll unwind and destress. The best thing is that you learn to respect your time. The by-product is that others will respect your time as well.
Your life is full of interruption. You must find time to unplug from the rest of the world and recharge your mind.
