Ask yourself: Am I a worker bee or a CEO?
There is a lot that goes into running your own business, but by far the most important thing for growth is your MINDSET. Did you start your business because you wanted to be your own boss?
Chances are, when you started your business, you did everything because, let’s face it, you had more time than money. Everything falls on your shoulders until you have enough money to hire people to help.
Do you find yourself overwhelmed because you are working on all aspects of your business? You won’t move your business forward if you continue to do menial tasks just to feel hard at work or because you are procrastinating on a harder job.
It seems that many trade working for someone else with simply being a “senior employee” for themselves. How do you break free of the “worker bee” mindset and promote yourself to CEO of your company?
Focus on the Big Picture: When you spend time planning the future, you will accelerate your business’ success. A CEO doesn’t lose focus by continuing to do mundane tasks like filling in paperwork, or ensuring that every “i” is dotted and every “t” is crossed.
Focus on Strengths, NOT Weaknesses: No one is good at everything. A CEO focuses their time on the things they do well and the things that are the best use of their time.
Look for ways to Outsource: Most every essential function for administering a business can be quickly outsourced to competent and trustworthy people. It is true, that setting up outsourcing does take an investment of time, but the return on investment will come at an amazing speed.
Systemize: A CEO isn’t a micro-manager. Look for ways to minimize the number of places you will need hands-on involvement. Begin by systemizing your most time-consuming processes first.
Just because you may consider yourself a “small business,” I challenge you to think BIG! Be the CEO of your company. CEOs balance their personal and business goals, take advantage of other’s expertise, learn from their competition/peers and will continually seek to learn.
